O’Farrell meets with Central Coast business leaders on local challenges
6 August 2009 NSW Leader of the Opposition, Barry O’Farrell met with Central Coast business leaders on Tuesday at a NSW Business Chamber Central Coast Business Leaders Breakfast to discuss the challenges facing business owners on the Central Coast. Mr O’Farrell outlined his vision for Central Coast businesses which focused on creating an environment that encouraged competitive businesses and incentives through payroll tax reductions to create jobs. Ken Baker, President of the NSW Business Chamber Central Coast Council took the opportunity to raise the key issues and challenges for the Central Coast business community. “What Central Coast business owners and operators are looking for are policies that will stimulate investment, reduce inefficient taxes and reduce red tape,” said Ken Baker, NSW Business Chamber Central Coast President “We are also looking for regional outcomes – we are ‘the forgotten region’ masked between Sydney and Newcastle and overlooked for infrastructure investment. The next government needs to deliver more investment in the Central Coast to support the expected growth of 100,000 more people living on the Central Coast by 2030.” Mr Baker said that the Central Coast was desperately crying out for a vibrant city centre – a cultural hub for the Central Coast – with residential and retail development flowing to a magnificent harbour and foreshore designed for recreation and tourism. “What we need from the next government, whichever party wins, is a commitment to work with local business owners, residents and community groups to munlock the potential of the Central Coast – we are not a dormitory for Sydney.”
