OHS step by step

Meeting OHS obligations can be overwhelming. Many of our members tell us that at times it seems impossible.

With the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2000, the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation 2001 and a multitude of industry codes of practice to review, understand, apply and manage, it is no wonder business people are left confused and wondering if they can achieve everything required to meet their obligations.

And even if it is clear what must be done, with other business issues to address how does a small business person find the time to manage their obligations?

Is it all just too hard?

NSW Business Chamber has led the charge in OHS management long enough to know what it takes to implement an effective OHS management system.

To make the task of meeting OHS obligations attainable, NSW Business Chamber has developed OHS Basics; an electronic OHS management tool that divides OHS requirements into achievable tasks and guides the participant through the process of developing an OHS management system – one step at a time.

Delivered through a series of emails, OHS Basics provides regular updates and the necessary information and resources, including templates, forms and tailored policies, to implement a management system which will reduce the risk of incurring potentially costly fines. OHS Basics also provides one-on-one help through an Ask an Expert service when there are specific business issues that need to be addressed.

Through OHS Basics you can also produce a report, at any time, to track and measure your progress. This report can also be used to demonstrate to WorkCover that you have an effective and continuously improved OHS management system in place.
