What’s happening?
There are major changes impacting ALL business as occupational health and safety (OHS) is reformed into work health safety (WHS) with the goal of creating safer working conditions nationally.
By the start of 2012 most state OHS laws will be replaced.
In NSW, the new Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act) will result in some important changes to the way work health and safety is currently administered in the workplace. The changes don’t just affect some workplaces, they affect every business.
When?
In NSW the new Work Health and Safety Act 2011 took effect on 1 January 2012.
Is your business ready?
Every business should consider the following:
- When was the last time you conducted a safety audit of your workplace?
- When was the last time you reviewed safety policies and procedures for compliance?
- Are your staff trained and aware of safety procedures in their workplace?
- Are you aware of the changes to the regulations?
- Are you aware of the consultation requirements?
- Are you aware of how the reasonably practicable and due diligence tests work?
Compliance can be complex for some. Maximum penalties will be high and timeframes to make sure you comply are tight.
