AirAsia X flights strengthens Sydney’s link to growing Asian tourism market

Release Date: 17/01/2012

The Sydney Business Chamber has applauded the work of Destination NSW, Tourism Australia, Sydney Airport and the NSW Government in securing the new daily AirAsia X Kuala Lumpur to Sydney air route.

“The securing of the AirAsia X Kuala Lumpur to Sydney daily flight service will be a boon for Sydney’s tourism market as it strengthens the city’s connection with the growing tourism sector of Asia,’ said Patricia Forsythe, Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber.

“This new service is anticipated to generate around $138 million in economic activity and see 55,000 more international visitors to NSW every year.”

Mrs Forsythe said the success of NSW and Australian tourism agencies in securing this new link to Asia’s growing tourism market was evidence that NSW was back on the right track to seizing new economic opportunities.

“This is a significant achievement for NSW’s new tourism body, Destination NSW, and the whole of government approach that has been adopted to make sure Sydney and NSW are in the best competitive position to attract new business and new visitors to the region.”

Mrs Forsythe said she noted at today’s launch announcement that Sydney’s retail offering was a strong selling point in attracting international visitors from the Asia-Pacific region to Sydney.

“Sydney’s strength in terms of our attractions and retail shopping experience is positioning Sydney perfectly to tap into Asia’s growing leisure and tourism market.”
