Stephen is a Director of the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Australia's largest and most representative business association, which speaks at a national and international level on behalf of the nation's State and Territory Chambers of Commerce and Industry and National Industry Associations from all sectors of the economy.
On an international level, Stephen became a member of the World Chambers Federation Council in January 2011 and a director of the International Chamber of Commerce Australia in October 2011.
At NSW Business Chamber, Stephen’s responsibility is to provide leadership and direction in establishing the Chamber as the premier business organisation in Australia, including influencing policy on a state and federal level to best serve the business community of New South Wales.
Stephen commenced his career with NSW Business Chamber in 1986 when he joined the organisation as the Regional Industrial Relations Officer in the Hunter Valley.
After moving to the Chamber’s head office in North Sydney, Stephen was subsequently promoted to Deputy Director - Industrial Relations, where, as a member of the senior management team, Stephen was responsible for all aspects of the Chamber’s IR services.
In 1993, Stephen co-founded Fisher Cartwright Berriman, a multi-disciplinary legal and consulting firm which specialises in providing corporate clients with expert advice and representation in the areas of Employment, Industrial and Workplace Law. In concert with other Partners, Stephen grew the business from a start-up to a thriving legal and consulting firm, with offices in Sydney and Melbourne and a total staff in excess of 40.
From 1997 to 2008, Stephen was the founding Managing Director and CEO of Chandler MacLeod Group Ltd, one of the largest and most diversified publicly listed companies operating in the Australasian Recruitment, Contracting, HR Outsourcing and HR Consulting sectors. Stephen grew the organisation from a small private company to a public company with annual revenues of over $1 billion.
Stephen holds an Associate Diploma of Engineering and a Bachelor of Laws, and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Stephen resides on Sydney’s North Shore with his wife and five children.
