The state’s peak business organisation, the NSW Business Chamber, believes the result of the NSW election will provide the business community with a much needed boost in confidence.

With counting set to continue over coming days it is clear that Premier Gladys Berejiklian will be able to form a government.

“For more than 12 months the NSW Business Chamber has been prosecuting the case that whoever forms Government needs to implement policies that will Keep NSW Number 1,” said NSW Business Chamber Chief Executive Stephen Cartwright.

“I congratulate the Premier on her victory and look forward to working with her and her Government over the next four years,” Mr Cartwright said.

“There has been a great softening in business confidence across the State as 2019 commenced due to the uncertainty hanging over the result of this election.

“For small businesses in particular, they were most concerned that proposed changes by the Opposition to the Payroll Tax system would limit their opportunities to grow and employ extra staff. This was particularly so in regional NSW.

“Business owners crave certainty when it comes to their ability to plan for the short and medium term, and to make decisions on investment and employment of staff.

“As the Premier indicated in her acceptance speech last night, the hard work starts now and it’s important that when the new Parliament is formed, it respects the mandate of the people and allows the Government to implement the agenda they took to the electorate.

“It is in all of our interests to ensure NSW remains the state to do business in the nation,” Mr Cartwright said.
