The Illawarra Business Chamber has welcomed the NSW Government’s decision to increase the number of people allowed to be seated in restaurants, cafes, pubs and clubs up to 50 from 1 June.
The Illawarra Business Chamber’s head office, Business NSW, has been working very closely with Government at a ministerial and agency level to accelerate steps to get NSW open for businesses in a safe and responsible manner as soon as possible.
“Cafés, restaurants, pubs and clubs across the Illawarra will be delighted by this announcement which has been timed to coincide with the resumption of regional travel and tourism on 1 June,” said Adam Zarth, Executive Director of the Illawarra Business Chamber.
“Every step we take to open up the economy and get businesses back up and running is good for jobs and for the well-being of our citizens. I am pleased to see a continuation of the strong working partnership between government and the business community when it comes to the managing of our COVID-19 response.”
“Businesses are raring to reopen in earnest and are keen to stand on their own two feet. The announcement today will help many of them to do just that, with 50 people per venue, even with social distancing, a much more sustainable option.”
“This announcement is also a vote of confidence and trust in the business community, and especially in the hospitality sector, that they can manage an increase in customers in a safe and responsible way.”
“I encourage every business operator to follow the health and safety rules that this new level of freedom comes with. We cannot afford to take a backward step when it comes to the reopening of our state’s economy,” said Mr Zarth.
