In its most recent budget, the Federal Government announced the Mid North Coast would be chosen as one of two locations nationally, to trial a new approach to employment services.

The new pilot will create online tools to help the job ready self-serve, and enable employers to quickly search for and match candidates. This should assist those who can, to help themselves, while those who are more disadvantaged, will be better able to get the help and resources they need to get a job.

This pilot represents a major advocacy win for NSW Business Chamber. The Chamber called for changes to the current jobactive program in a recent submission to the government.

In that submission, the Chamber highlighted the need to tailor jobseeker support to employer needs and to make greater use of technology and specialist support in assisting jobseekers.

As members would also be aware, the Chamber has been very active in the media calling for urgent action to address our region’s unacceptably high youth unemployment rate – the second highest in the nation. It only makes sense to pilot the new scheme on the Mid North Coast.
