With another group of school leavers set to dip their toe in the jobs market in the next few months, we need to ask ‘how can I help?’
It seems like a while ago now but I can still remember my first job, and the bloke who, after meeting me once or twice, took a chance. Can you remember who provided your first job? Remember what it meant to you?
Over the coming months, school leavers across NSW will finish their final exams, with many looking to make the transition from school to work and begin forging their adult lives.
Here at the Chamber we believe it’s up to all of us to do our part to skill Australia and ensure that both our next generation and our businesses have the bright future they deserve.
If this is something you’re interested in learning more about, you can hear our CEO, Stephen Cartwright, speak about what your business can do to lead the way by utilising the apprenticeships and traineeships program here
By hiring a school leaver as an apprentice or trainee you can:
- train to the specific requirements of your business
- access Government funding, incentives and rebates if eligible
- choose from over 500 qualifications across all industries
- hire under a full-time, part-time or flexible school-based training option
- reap the rewards through higher levels of staff retention and satisfaction
- add value to your bottom line and increase productivity over time.
Our team at Skillsroad has spent the last month visiting schools from Tenterfield to Quirindi, not only listening to school children and providing career advice but also connecting businesses with some of the brightest, hardworking young people in our state.
Yes, that right, these young people are your neighbours, your work colleague or even your own children. So why not give back and by giving a young Australian an opportunity in your business and becoming a mentor for the next generation?
