October was a big month (it was NSW Small Business Month), and we jam packed it with some great events from Tweed to Grafton.

A big highlight was the Northern Rivers Regional Business Awards. We celebrated the wonderful achievements of over 100 business finalists who were all so very deserving of this recognition.

Congratulations to our 2019 winners – and good luck at the State Awards on Friday 22 November in Sydney.

Buy regional this Christmas

The NSW Business Chamber is getting behind initiatives that are supporting buying in the regions.

You may have seen the recent NSW State Government initiative, promoted by the Small Business Minister Damien Tudehope, inviting regional businesses to join the website and offer their products or services to all.

Buy Regional gathers regional businesses from drought-hit communities into one website, giving people in metro areas the chance to buy directly from them.

Directing traffic to the website will encourage sales and bring urgently needed funds to these businesses, sustaining them and in turn, their communities as we approach Christmas.

Hosted on nsw.gov.au, the website lists businesses with an online presence selling products in these categories: food, wine, fashion, kids, homewares and hampers. Be sure to spread the message to your friends and family.

Get into your local CBD

If you are a ‘buy it over the counter’ or ‘market stall’ kind of Christmas shopper then be sure to buy it local. It will be the gift that keeps on giving.

Christmas is my favourite time of year and I look forward to spending time with our local retailers and makers to find just the right gifts for my special people.

I always have a Northern Rivers story to go with the gift which my family enjoy as much as the gift itself.

Yours in business

Jane Laverty – Regional Manager Northern Rivers, NSW Business Chamber
